John Simpson, son of Hugh Simpson and Mary Ann Long, was born 4 August 1791 in Pendleton Co., SC.  His middle name is reported to be Lewis but there is no other document to verify this.
The family moved to Kentucky then to Davidson Co., TN. Then, probably in the year of 1810, the family moved and settled in Warren Co., KY.
John is probably listed in the household of Hugh Simpson enumerated in the 1810 federal census of Warren County, KY. John is in the 16 to 26 column.

He died 1 March 1863 in Franklin Co. AR and is buried at the Simpson Plantation in Mulberry Twp., Franklin (present-day Crawford) Co., AR.
John’s will was recorded and probated at the courthouse in Ozark, Franklin Co., AR 18 May 1863 with his son, Lewis, was named as an executor with William J. Remy and Richard Quesenbury as witnesses.
Transcription of John’s will in Franklin Co., AR:
Know all men by these presents that I, John Simpson, of Mulberry Township in the County of Franklin and State of Arkansas as gentleman being in good health and of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any times heretofore made.
First I hereby constitute and appoint Lewis Simpson to be sole Executor of this my last will directing my said executor to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses and the legacies hereinafter given out of my estate.
Second I give and bequeath to my son Lewis a certain portion of land of my real estate a part of the Northwest quarter of Section Eighteen also a part of Southwest quarter of Section Seven also a part of the Southeast quarter of Section Twelve Township Ten North of Range Twenty-eight West commencing at a black oak tree near the branch a little West of South from Lewis Simpson’s dwelling house thence a strait line north to a black oak tree near the house thence a strait line to a white oak tree on a bank near the garden thence a strait line a little west of north to a walnut tree by the fence thence a strait line northwest to a stone at the end of the first crop fence thence with said fence to the north end of said crop fence thence north a parallel line with Justin Beneux line to the dividing line between me and said Beneux thence east with said line to the Range Two thence south with said Beneux line to the corner at the mouth of a short lane thence eastwardly with a conditional line between me and said Beneux to a branch thence with the nuances of the branch conditional line to the forks of the branch thence east with conditional line to the east boundary line of my land thence south with said line thirty Rods to a stake thence westwardly to the beginning to have as a portion or part of his portion of estate at its value the labor he puts on said land not to be considered the half of the apple orchard reserved to myself and wife our natural life.
Third I give and bequest to my wife the remainder of my estate or so much as will be sufficient for her use her natural life at my death if she considers that there are more than a sufficiency for her support the over plus to be divided equally between the lawful heirs and the property to be valued by these disinterested men to be chosen by a majority of the heirs and the proportional part that will belong to Hugh Simpson heirs and Jefferson Simpson’s children to be in the hands of Lewis Simpson my executor till they become of age and to be paid over to them their proportional part as they become of age and at the death of my said wife the balance to be divided equally as abovementioned.
